Theology Beer Camp 2023

Theology Beer Camp 2023, themed The God-Pods Strike Back, took place from October 19–21 in Springfield, Missouri. Hosted by Homebrewed Christianity, the event brought together progressive theologians, podcasters, and craft beer enthusiasts for a lively three-day celebration of faith, fun, and nerdy camaraderie.

Highlights of the Event

  • Speakers & God-Pods: The event featured an impressive lineup of scholars and podcasters, including John Dominic Crossan, Adam Clark, Grace Ji-Sun Kim, Myron Penner, and Thomas Jay Oord. Popular theology podcasts like The Bible for Normal People, You Have Permission, and A People's Theology added to the dynamic discussions.

  • Activities & Entertainment: Attendees enjoyed a mix of intellectual and social activities, including live podcast recordings, theological speed-dating, 90s karaoke, a fall festival, and an epic bottle share. The live music lineup included performances by Dan Haseltine (Jars of Clay), Derek Webb (Caedmon’s Call), Trey Pearson, and Flamy Grant.

  • Community Building: The event fostered connections through activities like contemplative prayer, keynote discussions, and God-Pod tailgates, creating an inclusive and welcoming space for theology nerds.

Why It’s Special

Theology Beer Camp 2023 offered a unique blend of rigorous theological exploration and lighthearted fun, celebrating both intellectual engagement and community. With interactive sessions, a lineup of renowned speakers, and plenty of craft beer, it was an awesome experience for everyone who attended.

As head the planning team, I coordinated logistics, programming, and event activities, ensuring everything ran smoothly and that attendees left with a sense of connection and inspiration.
